3-Part Sermon Series starts this Sunday

This Sunday I will introduce a slogan for our church.  Know-Love-Follow, God.  This is more than a slogan however, it is our purpose, it is the biblical discipleship process, and it is the place every pastor wants his people to be.  I will start a 3-part sermon series this Sunday on it.  I'm really looking forward to introducing it to everyone.  For a sneak peek at what the new slogo may look like go to our facebook page (can't get it to upload here).

Anita Ford, long-time missionary to Honduras, passes away

Thursday, August 19th, Anita Ford passed from this life to the next.  Anita served as a missionary to Honduras for many years.  At the time of her coming off the field, due to terminal cancer, she had served in the field longer than any other missionary for General Baptists.

Anita was the first missionary Paula & I supported financially.  We began her first year on the field.  We were impressed and convicted by her heart for God and people.

I am thankful for the impact she had on my life.  She was one of the cornerstones God used in my life to build a great desire for missions.  I found her to be genuine in her love for people and her desire to point them to the Lord.  Her faith shaped her life, never the other way around.  She was intentional.  She believed what she said, and lived what she believed.

Who can speak of Anita without eluding to her straight talk personality.  Personally, I loved it!  In fact, as I began to have opportunity to meet her on the field in Honduras it was in her no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point personality that Anita and I found our connecting point and forged a friendship and mutual respect that I have found in few others.  Each mission trip, I looked for a chance to sit and visit with Anita.  It always proved to be a time for me to be inspired by someone of her devotion and charisma as well as a time for her to find release and solace in a pastor's ear.  We shared tears of sadness and heartbreak as well as tears of unspeakable joy at the Lord's doings in and around our lives.  We have laughed, ...man have we laughed, about everything.  Lives given to ministry are not merely marked by tears and struggle, delirium has its place as well.  I have long since missed our annual conversations.

Truly, the world's loss is heaven's gain.  I am happy for her, for now, her faith has become sight and her hope fulfilled.  Her love for people was only surpassed by her love for her Lord.  She was my friend and a comrade in arms, ... and I miss her.

Goodbye Anita, you were one of a kind!
